A Couple of Unique Recovery Ideas from a TEAM Counselor

Part of TEAM’s Recovery Month series.

September is Recovery Month and there are resources available for everyone. If a 12-step program isn’t for you, there are still plenty of unique but effective options.

Recovery Yoga is the practice of reconnecting to your body and finding serenity and wisdom on the yoga mat so that you can channel those qualities into your everyday life. It is designed for individuals who are in recovery from substance use or from trauma. While you can find recovery-focused yoga practices in most areas, including online, Sacred Space is a Minneapolis-based yoga studio led by an instructor who is in recovery herself and found true healing through Recovery Yoga.

Another unique approach to finding and maintain recovery is equine-assisted therapy. Equine-assisted therapy incorporates the calming, powerful presence of horses into your recovery. Working with horses allows you to see how your emotions and behaviors impact those around you. It allows you to regain control over your thoughts, choices and behaviors. Equine-assisted therapy is a growing practice nationwide, but local to the Midwest, interested parties can connect with Acres for Life in Forest Lake, MN or Changing Gaits in Brook Park, MN. https://www.naadac.org/national-recovery-month
